Films

Some of Howard’s stories have been developed into documentary films. “Prisoner of Her Past” and “For the Left Hand” are the work of Chicago-based Kartemquin Films. “Kenwood’s Journey,” which won an Emmy Award, was produced by the Chicago Tribune.

Books

Howard’s books reflect decades of expertise on jazz, classical music, opera, the arts and Holocaust-related issues. All are nonfiction, and each originated in the pages of the Chicago Tribune, where Howard wrote from 1978 to 2021.

Meet the Author

Howard Reich has written six books and produced/written three documentary films. He has served on the jury for the Pulitzer Prize in Music four times, including the first time a jazz composition won: Wynton Marsalis’ “Blood on the Fields,” in 1997. Howard graduated from Northwestern University as a piano performance major, did graduate studies there in music theory and history, has won an Emmy award and holds two honorary doctorate degrees. He covered music and the arts for the Chicago Tribune from 1978 to 2021.
